The proof is in the... Conversion Rate

How many people visit your website without even making a purchase or contacting you?

Probably a lot more than you'd like. Your website needs to motivate visitors to either make a purchase or contact you in some other way, e.g. signing up to a newsletter, calling you on the phone or emailing you directly.

The conversion rate tells us what percentage of our website traffic carries out a direct action as a result of visiting our website. Depending on the type of business, you should expect a conversion rate of 1-10% at least, and if not, my guess is your website could do with a conversion rate boost.

Traffic x Conversion Rate = Number of Sales

Although it is important to focus on increasing traffic to your website, what if you increase your traffic by 200% but your conversion rate stayed the same at 1%?! If you doubled your traffic and your conversion rate, you could potentially quadruple your sales. Conversion rates are as important as website traffic and it is essential to focus on improving both.

For example:

If you have a state of the art SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) strategy that has launched your web site to the first page of Google, this is all well and good. However, if you have an uninformative, un-engaging or poorly designed website, your visitors will not be motivated to turn into buyers!

Did you know; on average it takes 7-10 visits to your website before a browser chooses to get in touch.

Online marketing and website design have to work together to achieve great conversion rates, because traffic without sales is like the internet without a search engine.
